A conversation with Paige Miller, our Social Media Manager
At 501 Fun, our service doesn’t stop after the sale. We want every one of our customers to succeed long-term, helping venues not only launch successfully, but continue to grow, market themselves effectively and create experiences guests want to come back to.
As part of that support, we sat down with Paige from our marketing team to talk about how social media is changing the hospitality industry, and why authenticity is now more important than polished perfection.
Genuine Connection Beats AI Content
The way venues market themselves has changed dramatically. It’s no longer about polished ads, it’s about relatable, shareable experiences.
“People are getting tired of AI-generated posts,” she said. “They crave real human connection.” The shift is toward high-quality but casual content - something that feels real, not overproduced. “People don’t want ads, or overly promotional content,” she added “They want to see your personality. How your team and venue come to life.”

Are Venues Now Being Designed for Social Media?
“Absolutely, venues are being designed with social media in mind,” she said. “When a venue looks exciting and fun online, it builds anticipation. But what you post has to reflect reality. Guests don’t want to feel misled.”
What Makes a Venue Shareable?
“Shares, saves, comments are the metrics that matter now, not just likes,” she explained. “Shareable content often shows something unique, exciting, or funny. Something that makes people want to say, ‘We have to go here!’”
The Best Low-Budget Tactic? Follow Trends.
“Following trends is free,” she said. “Just look at what’s working, add trending audio, on-screen text, and adapt it for your venue. Quick, fun videos with your team get far more traction than static posts.” And if you only have 30 minutes a day? “Focus on short video content. That’s what reaches new audiences.”

The Biggest Misconception
“The biggest misconception is that you can post anything and it’ll work,” she said. “If it’s not intentional, if it’s not speaking to your audience or showcasing your experience, it can actually turn people off. The best content is intentional, relatable, and shows why your venue is worth experiencing.”
Paige’s 5 Tips For Creating A Great Social Post
We asked Paige for her top advice when it comes to creating engaging social content for venues 👇
- Nail the hook - “You only have a few seconds to stop the scroll.” Use movement, bold visuals and strong text on screen immediately. Many users watch without sound, so captions and on-screen text are essential.
- Good lighting makes a huge difference - It doesn’t have to be natural light either. “Neon lighting, immersive spaces and colourful venues already create visual interest, just make sure the content is clear and not grainy.”
- Show personality - People connect with people. “Featuring staff, reactions and behind-the-scenes moments helps audiences relate to your brand and builds trust.”
- Prioritise real moments over perfection - Authenticity almost always outperforms over-produced content. “Guests want to see what the experience actually feels like. Genuine reactions, fun moments and real energy will always perform well.”
- Keep content short and trend-aware - “You don’t need a huge production budget to make content work." Short-form videos using trending sounds, relatable humour and fast-paced edits are often the best way to reach new audiences organically.
Key Takeaways
In a social media-driven world, venues aren’t just places, they’re stories waiting to be shared. By focusing on real, relatable content and thinking like a brand, operators can turn followers into guests, and guests into your best marketers.
The bottom line? Show up authentically, embrace what makes your venue unique, and give people a reason to hit share. Because in the end, the venues that thrive are the ones people are excited to talk about.
